南韓MERS疫情越演越烈，台中市政府針對防疫已擬妥健康管理、醫療整備、防疫物資儲備、風險溝通等防疫四大主軸，與全市防疫人員廿四小時待命等十二項策略。面對疫情不分國界與縣市，市府將與中央密切合作，並與鄰近的彰化、南投共同防疫，而消防局已指定國光、東山與沙鹿分隊為防疫專責分隊，除有負壓隔離救護車外，第一線消防人員皆已配發防護衣、帽。
台中市政府昨（十五）日舉行市政會議，由衛生局長徐永年針對中東呼吸症候群冠狀病毒感染症（MERS）提出疑似案例及危機應變機制專案報告。
林市長聽取報告後表示，市府提早擬定防疫四大主軸與十二項策略，衛生局一定要落實防疫SOP，而有疑似症狀的國人也應做好健康自主管理。有鑑於醫護人員很容易受到感染，因此救護消防與醫院的車輛、設備都需齊全，提高準備，但毋須恐慌。
林市長也說，MERS傳播不分國界與地域，防疫有賴中央與地方密切合作，而中彰投也應共同防疫，各局處都應拋開本位主義，依照各任務分工執行，必要時將成立疫情應變中心。
副市長潘文忠也說，MERS疫情恐怕遲早進入台灣，只是不知道會在哪裡，因此衛生局應清楚說明疫情，而各機關協助宣傳也應以衛生局的文宣為主，避免社會誤解而恐慌。
徐局長表示，市府一日率先成立應變中心，並召開防疫應變會議，訂出健康管理、醫療整備、防疫物資儲備、風險溝通等防MERS入侵的四大主軸，與全市防疫人員廿四小時待命、落實TOCC問診（詢問病患旅遊史、職業別、接觸史、群聚情形）強化通報、模擬演練等十二項防疫策略。
目前衛生局已掌握全市一一八間負壓隔離病房、三十八間一般隔離病房狀況，並規劃各院的支援人力共計二○七名。且也規劃醫院與診所，針對就診病患處置流程，疑似病患將在各醫院隔離病房中隔離，而確診病患將被送到台中醫院隔離、診療。
除事前規劃之外，衛生局也在四日辦理防疫應變演練、十一日召集全市十七家一百床以上規模醫院，討論病例的處置與收治，並出動神秘客實地查核六十五家各級醫院的整備狀況與查核。
